Fusion Sports Weighted Scoring System Explained
We're excited to introduce a new weighted scoring system for our pickleball league! This idea came from player feedback and is commonly used in other ladder leagues. We're giving it a try to see how you like it. If it’s not well-received, we’ll adjust or remove it in future leagues. 😊
What is Weighted Scoring?
Our weighted scoring system evaluates your performance weekly and determines tier placements (what court you will play on) for the following week. Players with the highest weighted scores from the previous week will play in the top tier, and vice versa.
How It Works
Weekly Weighted Score Formula:
Tier Value + Percentage of Points Won + (Winning % x 25)
The formula factors in your tier difficulty, point differential, and winning percentage to provide a fair and balanced score.
Tier Values:
Tier 1: 100
Tier 2: 85
Tier 3: 70
Tier 4: 55
Tier 5: 40
Tier 6: 25
Example:
Scenario: You win 60% of the total points in Tier 2 and finish with a 4-1 record.
Weighted Score Calculation:
85 (Tier 2 Value) + 60 (Percentage of Points Won) + 20 (80% Win Percentage x 25) = 165
How Rankings Are Determined:
Weekly Rankings: After each week, players will be ranked by their weighted scores, from 1 to 36 (since we have 36 total players). Rank 1 is the highest score, and rank 36 is the lowest.
Handling Absences:
No Notice: Drop 2 spots in rankings.
Day-Of Notice: Drop 1 spot in rankings.
Notified in Advance: Maintain previous ranking.
Misses 2 Weeks in a Row: Drop 3 spots in rankings.
Please inform us at least one day before the league if you can't make it:

How Tier/Court Assignment is Determined:
Tier Placement (what court you end up playing on):
Printed sheets showing player tiers (what court you are on) will be shown in person at the league.
Your tier (what court you play on) depends on your ranking and the number of available players each week. There will be 4-6 players assigned to each tier/court. For example, if there are 6 total missing players one week, there will be 5 players assigned to each tier/court (30 Available Players / 6 Tiers/Courts). If there are 5 total missing players one week, some courts will have 5 players assigned to their tier/court while others will have 6 players. It is a random system for how we determine which courts have 5 players and which courts have 6 players if this situation occurs.
Higher rankings increase your chances of being in a higher tier.
Weekly Re-Ranking:
After each week's games, players will be re-ranked based on their weighted score.
Absent players remain in their same ranking (if they let us know at least a day in advance).
Leaderboard Visibility:
The Overall Leaderboard and Weekly Rankings will be shared within 72 hours after the end of each week.
